Local authorities receive PLN 7.5 bln till 2010 for purchase, modernisation and renovation of rail stock, including PLN 3.6 bln till 2015. These are tremendous outlays that we have never had before - said Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Juliusz Engelhardt at the debate on the municipalization of regional railways.
The Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment for the years 2007 -2013 supports investment activities relating to purchase and modernisation of rail passenger carriages to be used in public transport within the area of at least two provinces, with participation of PKP Regional Services at a level of 50%, estimated value of EUR 175 mln.
The meeting was also focused on the experience of regional railways in Great Britain. The debaters pointed that municipalization of regional railways in Poland should be considered in the view of the railway crisis in Europe.
The debate was organised in Warsaw, 10 March 2010, by the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Polish Industrial Lobby, Railway Trade Unions Confederation, and Railway Trade Union NSZZ „Solidarność”.
