We hope that local authorities will use public-private partnership for the deployment of broadband internet. It wil be possible when the Parliament passes the law, which the Government approved at the beginning of November 2009. The law provides a general and flexible legal framework to foster the development of the information society by eliminating barriers to investment in network infrastructure, and consequently overcoming the digital divide based on gender, income and by locations - said Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk opening the session of the Honorary Committee of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2010 in Warsaw, 26 February 2010.
The meeting was also attended by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Magdalena Gaj, President of the Electronic Communications Office Anna Streżyńska, and President of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers (SEP) Jerzy Barglik.
The session was focused on a framework programme of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (ŚDTiSI), organised this year under the banner of
Better city, better life with ICTs.

ŚDTiSI 2010 will be traditionally held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Infrastructure. The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.
Major celebrations will take place in Warsaw, 13 May 2010.
