23.02.2010; Undersecretary of State J. Engelhardt, Debate on new shape of Polish railwaysThe most important for us is to finish the processes of debt removal and restructuring in PKP Group - said Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Juliusz Engelhardt opening a series of debates titled “Lunch z Kurierem”.

It is possible to delete railway debt till 2014 - stressed the deputy minister. It is meant to continuously modernise railway stations also after 2011 so that the biggest stations could be renovated within ten years. Accordingly, 30 stations should be modernised a year. J. Engelhardt also pointed that “station charge” would not be assigned to investments; conversely, it would support their ongoing operation, maintenance of common parts, i.e. waiting room, access ways, platforms, and car parks.

The discussion, also attended by President of PKP Polish Railway Lines (PLK) Zbigniew Szafrański and President of Land Transport Chamber Ireneusz Gójski, focused on the issues related to rail infrastructure (intended to become state-owned property), long-term contracts with financing levels, and rail line maintenance standards.

The debate was organised by “Kolejowa Oficyna Wydawnicza” in Warsaw, 22 February 2010.
