Warsaw, 20 January 2010, Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk met with Minister of Transport Gustav Slamečka (Czech Republic). The meeting was also attended by Undersecretaries of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure Radosław Stępień and Juliusz Engelhardt, and also Czech Deputy Ministers Pavel Škvara and Tomaš Kaas.
During the meeting, Minister C. Grabarczyk talked about road infrastructure development in Poland. As he stressed, Poland is the biggest construction site in Europe, and the contracts concluded within two years will allow to build 1311 km of national roads. The financial model of road investments used in Poland was also discussed. The Czech side was interested to learn Polish experiences in the field of financing road construction in the time of economic crunch. Minister G. Slamečka remarked that despite the economic slowdown in Europe, Poland - thanks to new financing model - managed to keep on implementing road projects.
Deputy Minister Radosław Stępień presented detailed information on road project implementation in Poland. The ministers mainly discussed those road projects related to the Polish Motorway A1 connecting with the Czech Motorway D1, or the Polish Expressway S3 linking to the Czech Expressway R11.
The ministers also debated on railway infrastructure. Deputy Minister J. Engelhardt talked about the existent rail network in Poland and future plans for its development as regards EURO 2012. The Czech side was informed of the construction project of high speed railways in Poland.
