- The Lisbon Treaty will enhance urban development within the Community - said Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Olgierd Dziekoński during the Polish-French seminary on 4 November 2009. The meeting was organised by the Embassy of France in Polnad. The seminary was also attended by Deputy Secretary-General of the Interministerial Committee for Urban and Social Development Pascal Florentin.
The seminar was organised to discuss urban policy in France and Poland. The participants exchanged experiences in absorbing structural funds for urban development, overview of new prospects for social and urban development, and new legal and financial instruments (urban contracts, JESSICA programme).
In his speech, Undersecretary of State Olgierd Dziekoński found it necessary to foster integrated urban devevelopment within the context of territorial cohesion policy at EU level. He also hoped that the Lisbon Treaty would offer more opportunities to develop urban areas. O. Dziekoński stressed that both countries should conduct a comparative analysis of EU structural fund absorption, allocated to urban development and revitalization projects.
The seminar was also attended by representatives of the governmental administration, local authorities, and experts from scientific and research institutes of urban development.
