16.10.2009; European Road Safety Charter signedPoland fully supports the European road safety policy - said Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure Radosław Stępień during the signing ceremony of the European Road Safety Charter. The ceremony, attended by representatives of the European Commission, non-governmental organisations, schools, scientific institutes and companies, was held during the Infrastructure Fair in Warsaw on 16 October 2009.

We declare that in the middle of the biggest investment process that we have ever had in Poland. So far, we have contracted the construction of 1133 km of high-standard roads. This will improve road safety, but it is not enough. We must build roads as well as improve road safety - explained Deputy Minister R. Stępień.

 
 
The ceremony was started by Acting Director of the European Commission Agency in Poland Marie-Therese Duffy-Haeusler. Head of the Road Safety Unit of the European Commission Isabelle Kardacz talked about road traffic safety policy in Europe, and European Road Safety Charter Co-ordinator Aude Delesalle described main parts of the initiative.
16.10.2009; European Road Safety Charter signedThe European Road Safety Charter was signed by Deputy Minister Radosław Stępień, representatives of the European Commission, and other 25 public institutions, associations and companies. The charter is meant to reduce the number of fatal accidents on roads by half in Europe by 2010.
The European Commission wants to save 25,000 lives by 2010. By the European Road Safety Charter, all interested parties form all EU Member Countries submit their proposals for road safety, making an active contribution to improve safety on roads.
