Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council meeting

On 11-12 June 2009, whithin the framework of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council, Luxembourg hosted the second formal meeting during the Czech Presidency. The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure Maciej Jankowski.

On 11th June 2009, the deliberations concerned transport and telecommunications, and on 12th June 2009 – energy.

The Council granted a mandate to the Commission to open negotiations with Georgia on a comprehensive air transport agreement and adopted conclusions on the green paper “Towards a better integrated trans-European transport network at the service of the common transport policy”. The Council reached a political agreement on a draft regulation concerning a European rail network for competitive freight.

At the meeting, the Council took note of the Presidency progress report on:

·         proposal for a regulation amending Council Regulation (EC) No 1321/2004 on the establishment of structures for the management of the European satellite radio-navigation programmes,

·         proposal for a directive laying down the framework for the deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems in the field of road transport and for interfaces with other transport modes,

·         proposal for a regulation on the rights of passengers in bus and coach transport and amending Regulation (EC) No 2006/2004 on cooperation between national authorities responsible for the enforcement of consumer protection laws.

The Ministers also discussed the need to reinforce European network and information security and the future of the ENISA Agency.

After the Council meeting, the Czech EU Presidency organised an informal ministerial debate on the future of the Telecommunications Package.
