Brussels, 23 January 2012, Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy Sławomir Nowak briefed Poland’s achievements in the field of transport (land, air and maritime) and horizontal issues during its six-month EU presidency at a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN).

Brest, 20 January 2012, Poland and Belarus concluded an intergovernmental agreement on inland navigation.

- Poland has been and will be a stable partner for China in the European Union, the Baltic Region, and Central and Eastern Europe. Economic and intellectual potential in Poland gives a good opportunity to develop business relations and implement Chinese maritime projects in Poland - said Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritme Economy Anna Wypych-Namiotko during a Polish-Chinese Economic Forum, 21 December 2011 in Beijing (China). Deputy Minister A. Wypych-Namiotko visited China between 17 and 22 December 2011 with the official delegation led by President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski.

Brussels, 12 December 2011, Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy Sławomir Nowak chaired the second and last meeting of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (TTE) under the Polish Presidency of the EU Council.

On 5 December 2011, Regulation (EU) No 1255/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2011 establishing a Programme to support the further development of an Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union, and came into force on 6 December 2011.

Brussels, 24 November 2011, the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council adopted in the first reading a regulation establishing an EU programme to further promote the development and the implementation of the EU's integrated maritime policy. The budget for the implementation of the programme in accordance with the relevant European objectives is EUR 40 million for the period 2011 to 2013.

The 27th Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is taking place in London at IMO Headquarters from 21 to 30 November 2011.

On 17 November 2011, during its Strasbourg plenary sitting of 14-17 November 2011, the European Parliament held a debate on whether to further develop an Integrated Maritime Policy. MEPs adopted a draft legislative resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a Programme to support the further development of an Integrated Maritime Policy.

There is no doubt that the maritime sector is of particular importance for the world economy as well as for national economies. It is worthwhile to say that the power of this sector depends on the people involved in it. The human factor is indispensable and irreplaceable. That is why, there is a need to pay particular attention to the people working in the maritime industry, especially to those at sea in the European Union - said Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Anna Wypych-Namiotko during a seminar "Maritime professions for blue growth – education, mobility and adaptability", which was held on 11 October 2011 in the European Parliament on the initiative of Member of the European Parliament Jan Kozłowski with active participation of representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
