Commission underlines commitment to ensure open internet principles applied in practice

The European Commission adopted a report on 19 April 2011 to ensure that citizens and businesses are easily able to access an open and neutral internet. The Commission will be vigilant that new EU telecoms rules on transparency, quality of service and the ability to switch operator, due to enter into force on 25th May 2011, are applied in a way that ensures that these open and neutral internet principles are respected in practice. For example, the Commission will pay close attention to the existence of generalised restrictions of lawful services and applications and to EU citizens' and businesses' broadband connections being as fast as indicated by Internet Service Providers' advertising.

Commission launches consultation on "Europe 2020 Project Bonds" to fund infrastructure

Brussels, 28 February 2011, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the "Europe 2020 Project Bond Initiative" which aims at boosting the funding of projects with long-term revenue potential in line with the Europe 2020 policy priorities. Its objective is to help the private project companies to attract capital market funding from investors such as pension funds and insurance companies. That is why the European Commission is going to join forces with the European Investment Bank in this Project Bond Initiative.
Global Ocean Governance: from Vision to Action

Gdańsk, 24 February 2011, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Anna Wypych-Namiotko took part in the first international conference on the law of the sea Global Ocean Governance: from Vision to Action. The conference, organised by the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) Poland under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Infrastructure, was held between 23 and 27 February 2011.
More EU citizens benefitting from online public services

According to Europe's 9th e-Government Benchmark Report released on 21 February 2011, more people across the EU now have access to public services online. The average availability of online public services in the EU went up from 69% to 82% from 2009 to 2010. Putting more Government services online helps cut costs for public administrations and also reduces red tape for businesses and citizens. The report reveals the best and worst performers in the EU, focusing on two essential public services: 'finding a job' and 'starting a company'.
