On 30 January 2007, President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński signed the Act on Special Purpose Road Companies (SSP). SSP will allow to efficiently build roads under supervision of General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), and by way of Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The Ministry of Transport is going to refund 600 mln EUR for investments under Sectoral Operational Programme – Transport in 2007. The payment is much higher than required by EU law, ie 478.4 mln EUR so as not to return the funding to the European Commission.

“In 2007, 60km of expressways and motorways and 50km of town bypasses will be put to use, and 160km of national roads will be reconstructed and reinforced”, pronounced Minister of Transport on 26 January 2007 during his press conference in the Parliament. “To meet our objectives, we are going to spend 5.5 bln PLN”, added the Minister, presenting the premises of the National Road Fund Bill for 2007. “Besides, this year 620km of expressways and motorways, 40km of town bypasses and 480km of national roads will be reconstructed”, informed Jerzy Polaczek. “What is more, as in 2006, when 2093km of roads were modernised, 8-10% of all road network of 18,600km will be improved, he added.

Conclusion of the Contract for Construction of Motorway A1: Sośnica – Bełk section in the Silesian Voivodship is the starting point for next contracts which will be concluded in 2007. It is expected that 3 additional contracts will be concluded between General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDNRM) and road contractors for the rest motorway sections in the Silesian Voivodship by the end of this year. The contract hereabove is worth 800 mln PLN and will start at the beginning of March 2007.
