The European Commission has launched a drawing competition for children in each EU member state. The child with the best drawing in each Member State will have his or her name given to a satellite of the Galileo programme.

The TEN-T Info Day 2011 will take place on 29 June 2011 in Brussels, Belgium. The event will present the priorities for the 2011 TEN-T Multi-Annual Calls, which will focus on: ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), RIS (River Information Services), MoS (Motorways of the Sea).

Today’s ceremony is taking place just a few weeks before Poland is taking over Presidency in the Council of the European Union and provides an excellent opportunity to launch this period, special responsibility and hard work, also in maritime affairs - said Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk on 19 May 2011 in Gdańsk at the opening ceremony of European Maritime Day 2011.

Commission launches public consultation on the revision of the Broadband Guidelines

Brussels, 19 April 2011, the European Commission invited stakeholders' views on the forthcoming revision of EU rules on the public financing of broadband infrastructure. The current guidelines, adopted in September 2009 provide a comprehensive framework for furthering the deployment of high and very-high speed broadband in Europe. However, fast evolving markets and rapid technological progress may require adaptations.
Technical rules agreed for using 4G wireless broadband devices on GSM frequencies

The European Commission adopted technical rules on how the 900 and 1800 MHz radio frequency bands should be opened up to advanced 4th generation (4G) communication devices. The rules, which are important to avoid interference problems with existing GSM and 3G devices, are an important step to bringing wireless broadband access to more EU citizens and businesses. The Commission Decision will therefore help to achieve the targets of the Digital Agenda for Europe to give every European access to basic broadband by 2013 and fast and ultra fast broadband by 2020.
