Poland is the biggest building site in Europe

budowa1.JPG „In 2007, construction works are under way on 258 km of motorways and 183 km of expressways”, said Minister of Transport Jerzy Polaczek during his press conference on 3 August 2007. This year, the Ministry of Transport and General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) have considerably intensified investment in construction of expressways and motorways, especially priority expressways – S3, S8 and S19. „We want to inform you what has been done on national roads and motorways in Poland every 3 months”, added the Minister.

Modernisation of Rail Baltica started

Today’s ceremony, which is to be commemorated by a memorial, here, at the station of Mockava, is a symbolic, wider opening of the gates, and opening of a new era as well, in which railway journeys between neighbours take place without limits of technical and legal nature”, said Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport Bogusław Kowalski on 23 July 2007 at the station of Mockava during the opening ceremony when the plaque was unveiled to commemorate Rail Baltica modernisation.

Information on the Polish bus accident in France

tragedia1.jpg On 23 July 2007, during his press conference, Minister of Transport Jerzy Polaczek offered his condolences with the families on the victims of the bus accident near Grenoble in France, and appealed to journalists to make serious reports on the disaster. Minister Jerzy Polaczek, who, along with President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński, was present on the place of the accident, informed about what was done by the French rescue service. The injured have been taken after by medical service and psychological support.

Adaptation of the Warsaw airport to the Schengen requirements

1.jpg On 18 July 2007, Warsaw Airport Okęcie was visited by two government members: Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Transport Eugeniusz Wróbel and Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Administration Wiesław Tarka. Both Undersecretaries, accompanied by the Masovian Voivod Marek Martynowski, PPL directors, Border Guards officers and new terminal contractor representatives, inspected the adaptation works of passenger terminals to the Schengen requirements.

Cancellation of periodic traffic restriction on heavy-duty vehicles

As reported by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDKKiA), under the Ordinance of the Minister of Infrastructure of 18 August 2003 on periodic restrictions and traffic ban on some vehicles on roads (Official Journal No. 161, item 1565) from 20 July 2007 the ban on vehicles and vehicle units with permissible total weight of more than 12 tonnes within the following voivodships: Lubelskie, Malopolskie, Podkarpackie, Slaskie, Swietokrzyskie is not in force.
GDDKiA also informs that if any ban is announced to improve road transport conditions, traffic will not be stopped on selected national roads because of high temperatures.
