Warsaw, 20 July 2011 - a high level conference on Relaunching the TEN-T: towards a sustainable EU transport policy gathered all the relevant stakeholders from Poland and the EU to look at the issues of trans-European mobility, sustainability and efficiency, in particular regarding new objectives, the financing, the role of new technologies and the implementation.

Brussels, 13 July 2011 - Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabraczyk and Undersecretaries of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Maciej Jankowski and Magdalena Gaj took part in a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE). Minister C. Grabarczyk presented plans for the Polish Presidency on telecommunications for the upcoming months. The meeting was also attended by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration Piotr Kołodziejczyk, who presented plans for the Presidency on information society. After speeches, the Polish Ministers participated in a press conference.

Brussels, 12 July 2011 - Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk and Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Maciej Jankowski took part in a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN). Minister C. Grabarczyk presented plans and priorities for the Polish Presidency on transport. During a discussion, he answered questions about the Presidency and current affairs in the field of transport.

22 representatives from EU Member States (attachés), delegates from the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission came to Cracow (Poland) for the EU Council Working Party Telecommunications and Information Society (H5) attaché trip - the first meeting from the Polish Presidency calendar organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure between 6 and 8 July 2011. A meeting of this kind is traditionally organised in a country holding the Presidency at the time.
Cross-border enforcement of road traffic offence: Parliament adopts compromise

The European Parliament approved, in plenary sitting on 6 July 2011, the directive on facilitating cross-border enforcement in the field of road safety. The new law aims to ensure that offenders from anywhere in the EU are equal before the law. Before the vote, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) parliamentary group withdrew their amendment on correlation tables that threatened to scupper the deal between the European Parliament and the Council.
More competition, more choice and lower prices for mobile phone users abroad

Brussels, 6 July 2011, the European Commission published a press release on the overview of the functioning of the roaming regulation (EC) No 544/2009. The Commission proposes more competition on the roaming market in Europe. To boost competition, the proposal would allow customers to sign up for a cheaper mobile roaming contract, separate from their contract for national mobile services, whilst using the same phone number. The proposed structural measures would complement the so called Eurotariff, and could constantly foster competition on the market and bring benefits to consumers.

- Although the end of the Hungarian Presidency is approaching, work on EU affairs goes on, with the Polish partners soon to get into the focus - Minister of State for Infocommunication Zsolt Nyitrai said at the Telecommunications and Information Society Dossiers delivery ceremony on 22 June 2011 in Eger. The Polish Presidency was represented by Undersecretaries of State Magdalena Gaj and Piotr Kołodziejczyk.

Fast progress needed to ensure sufficient spectrum allocation in the EU was agreed in a joint statement by representatives of the Hungarian and Polish Presidencies of the EU's Council of Ministers, the European Commission and European Parliament, who met in Brussels on 17 June 2011 to discuss one of the EU’s most significant legislative proposals in the digital agenda, the Radio Spectrum Policy Programme. The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of State for Telecommunications Magdalena Gaj, Minister of State for Infocommunications Zsolt Nyitrai, Vice-President of the European Commission for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes and, via video link, Gunnar Hökmark, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for spectrum.
